The Summit-University Youth Council is continuing to unite the youth in the community. The main goal of the youth council is not only to allow youth voices to be heard but to find opportunities for youth to shape and improve the community. For the past couple summers, the youth council has been hosting meetings where we discuss the issues we see in the community and brainstorm ideas and events for youth in the community to participate in. These ideas/events include community gardens, community clean-ups, food drives, information fairs, etc. This summer the youth council has been at various events, such as the Peace Celebration, the Rondo Days Parade, and National Night Out. Currently, the Youth Council is working on hosting a Movie Night in early September. We are also working on writing grants to help find more opportunities for youth in the community. One grant, in particular, is a resource fair for teens. This event will allow teens to gain leadership opportunities from businesses and organizations in Summit-University. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in the Summit-University Youth Council, or if you are interested in supporting our work with donations! By Hannah I.

I like the idea of a Youth Council. It's important our Youth be involved in their community. Looking at the picture of the Youth Council, I noticed no young men were at the table. Perhaps they were absent the day the picture was taken. I just want to ensure the male voices are heard and participating as well.
