Central Village Park Day‼️
Come celebrate the history, culture, and community of Central Village Park, St. Paul. A hidden gem in the historic Rondo neighborhood.
After the destruction caused by construction of I-94, Black residents fought to reclaim land, rebuild, and create a future for their families. With the leadership of Bill Parker (first Black City Councilman), the area from Dale & University to Western & University was designated for Black residents to purchase land and build homes.
Community members organized, advocated, and worked together at churches Mount Olivet Baptist Church and Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church to help reclaim and rebuild their neighborhood. Many of the families who built those homes are STILL living in the houses they built today!
Former Mayor Melvin Carter proclaimed July 13th as Central Village Park Day!
Central Village Park Day is a celebration of that legacy while honoring the continued evolution of Rondo. Beginning in the late 1970s, Rondo welcomed Asian and African immigrants who also made this neighborhood home, adding new stories, cultures, and traditions to this historic community.
Join us as we celebrate the past, present, and future of Rondo through LOVE, PEACE, UNITY, and community connection.
